U.S Consulate
Dear Travel Colleague,
As you may be aware new regulations come into affect 12 January 2009 for Australian and New Zealand passport holders wishing to enter the USA under the Visa Waiver Programme. Now, you will need electronic “travel authorisation” from US authorities. The new system is know as ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation). Information required through ESTA mirrors the data travellers already submit through the I-94W paper form currently filled out upon arrival at a U.S. port of entry; however, it simplifies the process by allowing visitors to complete the form online prior to arrival.
This authorisation is only available electronically, free of charge, and will require travellers to provide specific personal information to US immigration authorities. This will then generate a reply either authorising or denying approval to visit the
Please visit the US Department of Homeland security website to register- https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta

Registration with the Embassy
On another note, did you know...?
U.S. embassies and consulates assist nearly 200,000 Americans each year who are victims of crime, accident, or illness, or whose family and friends need to contact them in an emergency. Our ability to provide this assistance is enhanced by the Department of State's Internet Based Registration System, or IBRS. Through IBRS, individual travelers and tour operators can register on-line. Registrants can choose to receive information related to their travels such as Consular Information Sheets, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings. Whether you plan to be in a country for a short visit or an extended period of time, we encourage you to register! To get started, go to http://travel.state.gov and click on "Registration with Embassies."
